Virtual Production

Virtual production lets film productions capture impossible worlds with total control, faster, smarter, and without leaving the studio.

Cinematographer & Virtual Production Specialist

Richie has worked across some of the world’s leading virtual production stages, from Bollywood and Shanghai to Pinewood Studios Malaysia, Melbourne, and Sydney. Known for combining creative vision with deep technical expertise, in filming with real-time rendering, camera tracking and making the virtual world blend seamlessly with the real.

Has worked across multiple camera tracking systems for 3D VP projects using both optical and IR tracking and knows how to optimise VP production methods to keep productions on schedule and bridge the gap between VP technical teams, film production crews, post and creative.

Richie was among the first cinematographers to integrate AI-generated digital background assets into virtual productions and continues to pioneer advanced 3D spatial capture techniques merging photogrammetry, light-field imaging, and volumetric reconstruction. As a spatial capture specialist, he’s captured content and developed Gaussian Splat 3DGS driven digital asset pipelines for Hollywood productions currently in production.

Blending art, technology, and innovation, Richie continues to push the boundaries of cinematic storytelling in virtual production.

Projects

AUDI Q4 e-Tron
Real-time VP with Unreal Engine - Nant Studios

Australia’s first car commercial produced entirely on a Virtual Production LED stage using real-time 3D environments and optical camera tracking throughout.

Large-format LED screens created dynamic backgrounds and interactive lighting, while Unreal Engine rendered the environment in real time. As the camera moved, the virtual world updated instantly to maintain correct perspective, scale, and parallax.

Advanced optical tracking ensured precise alignment between the physical camera and digital environment, allowing realistic camera movement and depth. Custom digital lighting techniques were developed to complement the Audi’s design, highlighting key features while maintaining a natural, cinematic look.

This TVC had additional technical challenges for film production, due to the hero talent’s inability to travel to the location. As a result, we divided scenes sequences between live action on location and  studio virtual production, so that shots seamlessly matched.
